Went here; http://www.carkeyhelp.co.uk/products/Daihatsu-DH4RT-transponder-key.html £13, posted 1st class Recorded, same key as Timpson wanted £40 for!!

And they can cut it from the picture you e-mail them! Surprised

Odd, yours must be a late model one as Non of the (about 10) hijet keys I have are chipped. What year is it?

Nor have I seen any engine immobiliser yet on a wiring diagram.

Ahhh maybe I misread this, you just want a proper key yeah!!

I got a spare cut for a fiver but it's a plain metal key not the nice plastic grip type but as it's a spare I didn't worry.

Ye soft bugger - a Silca TOY38R is a good strong key blank and only £2.50 to £3 round here.

Reminds me though, when I bought a 6-month old Extol the sales guy kept burbling on about the key operating the immobilser. He went a bit red in the face when I asked how to change the battery, and then pointed out to him that it was just a normal key with a plastic bit on the end! Very Happy

Imoblisers have been battery free for years they use a transponder chip in the plastic, the housing around the ignition switch is a coil type ariel and the car transmits the power as such similar to the induction chargers that are being developed for wireless charging of your phone and like and the chip responds to the power and if it is to far away doesn't have the power to transmit it's code and turn the imobiliser off.

Oh, this all reminds of when I went to pick my brother up when I had the corsa, i dropped my (only) key and the plastic housing pinged open.. Throwing the chip into the abyss of the gravel drive, spent hours looking for it and went through some major hastle buying a blank key with chip as vauxhall tried saying they wernt allowed to sell them without the car being brought to them and that would cost me £250 for them to tow it there! Obviously I had to read the riot act to them and eventually got a key with chip from them for £12 and had a local mobile man program it for me for £10
I should really get another key for mine, the one I'm using is bent and the other is all rusty, might go for a "real" key!

Rich, I point was making was that the '53 Extol didn't have an immobiliser fitted, a plain metal key worked fine. I didn't know they were battery-less now though, my '98 Toyota's keys have batteries in.

Battery is for the remote central locking normally on toyota's, well on a key like this:-

Like on a yaris or a MR2 etc

And yeah I get what you were saying! Just being pedantic Laughing
