Four Wheel Drive 1300Hi -Jets ???

Post by Guest on Mon Mar 04, 2013 11:38 pm

Back on the 15th of February I asked if anyone knew if Daihatsu have made a Four Wheel Drive Hi-Jet Pickup 130016v version.
I understand that 1000 versions were made but does anyone know if 1300 versions were made. Would I be correct in assuming that they would most likely be Import only --- made for somewhere- anywhere but England as usual.
I would dearly like to get my hands on one.
We have a a guy who imports Four Wheel drive Subaru ( sorry for using such a swear-word on this site) Pickups from Japan here on the Islands and also does the Vee-Dub look-alike Fibreglass conversions on the Vans.
I have noticed that the front hubs are stub axles with drillings as though for Constant Velocity Joints.
The reason I ask is that I am very keen to build a 6 wheeler with an 8ft 6" bed to get 8ft x 4ft sheets on it. I think it would look fantastic and I have got all the bits to build one and a big enough workshop to do it-- apart from one thing --- a Four wheel drive Pickup.

Pickups are out there, but rocking horse teeth or hens shite Wink is easier to find. There was one for sale up here a few years ago, but i've not seen another.

Thank you Logi. After I posted that message I was trawling through some of the subjects and found that someone else had asked the same question and there were loads of similar replies to yours.
The chap that imports the Scoobie 4wd vans and pickups sells them for around £2000 registered on the road.
Will see if I can find his number on my phone and find out what he can get them for from Japan.
NOPE !! Not on there . 1022 contacts on my phone and he's not on there. BUM. Have got it written down somewhere on a notepad or in a diary-- but -----

I had a 2002 4x4 van, now got a 09 4x4 pick up and enough parts to convert a 2wd pickup into a 4wd, if you search mobile.de for piaggio porter pfau you will find loads of 4x4,

Thank you very much for your reply d1noh. Where abouts do you live as there are no details on your file.
I would certainly be interested in the parts for converting a 2wd if you are selling them and live in Britain but would like to buy a complete pickup to make less work in stretching and adding the 3rd set of wheels.
I wouldnt bother with an axle -- just use Indespension units for the third axle and thus no messing around with altering propshaft-- just add the chassis extension and longer body and stretched sides.
I have a Piaggio Widebody Long-bed in the yard already as a handy starting point for the body side of the project.
Will try the link you have given me. Many thanks once again.

Sorry didn't mean to mislead you, the parts wil go on a 2wd pick up that I have, would be nice to see a 6 wheel drive if you are going to convert one, Pfau Piaggio do some with their own Chassis models too, heavy duty all steel chassis some with extra long wheel base, upto 2700kg Shocked
I did put a photo on here somewhere of one of their conversions,
was the person on the Isle of Whight Darren aka Funkey Monkey?

Yes I think it was Darren if my brain would just work. Bit eccentric fella--- but there again so am I for that matter. I have supplied him with a few Acty bits in the past and his girlfriend worked for a lady friend of mine.
How have you come to know him and have you got a contact number for him. Definitely want to do the six wheeler but cant figure out how to drive the third axle and I would have to use Coil springs and trailing arms and Panhard rod for axle location as using two sets of leaf springs would put the two axles too far apart and would look hideous.
Hence the preference for 4wd only and Indespension units rather than a normal beam axle adding to unladen weight.
You didnt say where you were from either ??? Stuart.

Thank you d1noh. Yes thats my boy.. Importing loads of vehicles from Japan and doing the Mock V-Dubs on Subarus..
Thanks for the pictures. I looked into buying one of the range of HI-JETS last year and loved the idea of the crew cab and 3 way tipping body-- superb idea. With those rad grilles I am surprised BMW havent had a go at them for it as the dont half look similar.
Dont like the look of that 6 wheeler--- makes it look like a wartime German Half-track.
I would put the 3rd axle behind the 2nd and with the much longer body it would look muck more pleasing to the eye -- better balanced.
If you can find Darrens number it will be 01983 75---- as he lived at Freshwater If not I will see if my friend Bev still has his number. Thank you once again.
Oh yes where did you get your 4wd Porter from out of interest ??

The 2nd photo isn't one of those DFSK trucks it's a Pfau Piaggio with the heavy duty chassis, something you can weld too, not like a crap Italian steel chassis that we have to put up with

Darren's number 01983 761170 and may still be on minidubs@talktalk.net

Got to admit, got a 2wd out today after being in the 4wd for the last 6 weeks, what a difference, I had forgot how much quicker and lighter the 2wd's actually are, got to be the lack of free wheeling hubs on the 4wd, anyway it put a smile back on my face, not sure if the genuine Jap ones have free wheeling hubs as a option but that is the way to go

That is pretty damn rare.

1.3 efi - 4x4 - pickup - and on LPG!

I didn't think 4x4 1.3's were available Idea

Although it's not been taxed since 10/06/2008 Rolling Eyes and it's in the £215 class

Non really, you could possibly use some bits of a Terios.

But the prop shaft and drive shafts are the problem.

I have a complete Spares or Repairs 4x4 Hijet for sale though!

I have got several but I would forget about it. With the Romahome back on access to the wheel is difficult to say the least for a bloke never mind a lady especially in the pouring rain or a wet Road.
And with a rear tyre flat you would have to
be like a refugee from Belsen to get under there. You certainly don't want to be under there with the truck perched on the pathetic scissor jack Daihatsu provide. Extremely dodgy.
At Romahome we put the spare wheel in a proper zip-up case and it was stored in the Luton above the cab.
