wiring loom and central locking

Post by rich the mechanic on Sun Mar 28, 2010 6:36 pm

I found out today why my drivers door isnt connected in to the central locking, I had noticed that the wiring for the passenger door gets pulled quite sharply around the inner edge of the wing and now I have found the two ends of the drivers side that would only be cut off cleaner if it had been done with side cutters. I think I may have to take the wing off to get enough room to solder in a drop link will have to do the passenger side before that keels over.

if you can, use some heat shrink to protect the joint.

Oh yes I've got some in my soldering iron box but will have to nip into Maplins over other side of town to get some bigger diameter to cover the 5 wires, I only tape inside connections in a car coz I'm lazy outside and bike are always heat shrinked although I've never tried the stuff with the glue in for the really water tight joint.

we call it glue line. its brilliant, but its a use once job.. so dont put it in the wrong place.
ideally you need a heat gun to shrink it down. a hair dryer (on high) or paint stripper on medium setting will do fine.

Clare is a crafter I nick her heat gun (its medium high heat with a soft blow) if I cant get to it with the tip of my 100 watt soldering iron or a lighter.
