New Brakes for the climber :P

Post by El_Ventu on Sat Apr 13, 2013 5:01 pm

In February, I found that the left rear wheel cylinder was leaking oil.
I thought I would go on for a while, and I tried to find the spare parts at a decent price (piaggio wants € 98 + VAT -21% in italy- for each rear cylinder, € 60+VAT for the front pads, and 70€+VAT for the rear brake linings) ...
Last week, the floating brake oil reservoir has run askew, and did not indicate the minimum level, air entered in the circuit and I have only the front brakes working...
On the web I found "Japanparts" spare at 120€ in total.
Between last night and this morning I replaced the whole.

A lot of work to remove the front calipers (pins rusted) and mount the rear brake linings, given the short space between the (big) wheel hub, and the (small) brake linings...

Now it brakes much better!

I smeared the pins of the front calipers with a thin layer of high temperature copper grease, hopefully not get stuck again ...

Someone can take a look on your rear axle?
I'm curious to know if you, in England, have the Carraro differential or the (old) Daihatsu one...

If it is the Carraro one, it has a plate on the right side of the casting.
