Is it just me or.....

Post by rich the mechanic on Wed May 15, 2013 8:19 pm

do they make cars and bikes in a way that means it always takes bloody ages to do a simple job? I broke the temp sensor in the back of the head ages ago and I have finally got round to getting the replacement however the plastic connector makes it to deep for a deep socket and you can't get a normal combination spanner on it in a way you can turn it once on, the dizzy bevel box, exhaust and gearbox are all in the way and I can't even find a decent offset ring spanner or a crows foot locally. Bike unique tools are more often than not due to limited space something a car does not a problem with in most cases and Logi a sensor socket with a cut out is for things with wires hanging out the coolant sensor has the plug attached to the back of the brass threaded bit and due to it's size and shape will not fit a 6 point socket and engauge the hex I will have a look through the tools at work tommorrow se if anything fits then if not I will get a spare cheepo socket modified and attach it to another cheepo socket, really I could do with a box spanner but I sold off the few I had knocking about years ago because they were such a slack fit.

I have some box (or tube) spanners inherited from my Dad - all imperial though and I think some may be Whitworth. They've got round a fair few problems in their time - would never get rid of them.

Dunno about you PFM but the older I get the more of a Magpie I become.
Must keep it-- might need it for this --might need that for this.

Then I get to the point where I have so many bits and pieces that I throw a
wobbly and have a gigantic tip run or Ebay session ( which brings in a a few pennies) AND recycles my rubbish for another Magpie like me to do the same.
(HJ had a good clearup last week I remember.)

Then two days after getting rid of that item I have kept for 12years--- blow me --I need the damn thing !!!
Suppose I am very fortunate that I have the space to store my "valuable to me junk".

Whats the most infuriating "getting rid of " item any of you have done and regretted shortly afterwards ?

What gets in the way if you use a normal ring spanner?

The ring spanners I could find locally were the only slight offset it need the full old fashioned offset jobbie and that clears no probs so you can swing it from floor to exhaust.
