MOT tomorrow

Post by HighlyJetted on Sun Sep 08, 2013 8:46 pm

8:30am MOT Monday morning... totally forgot about it with a heavy weekend.

Last minute prep work i'm going to do after I eat my tea is:-

Change wheels and tyres for a another good set as my rears are on the limit.

Swap steering wheel over as I have no horn button Embarassed

Tweak rear brake bias controller as the back brakes barely do anything, then chuck a load of heavy stuff in the back.

Check all bulbs, wipers, washer jets.

Wish me luck!

I haven't seen a great tank yet.

If he fails it, I'll take it off, and weld a plate on the bottom.

Or I'll cover it in epoxy resin and tin foil Laughing

That really is a bit of bad luck Matt. Couldn't be much worse timing.

That's why I try and hold a stock level for myself and say no when I reach
it coz it really is Murphy's law when you get rid of your last spare--
You always need it yourself. And no I am not sending you a tank after
that last one I spent a week wrapping up to send out. What a pig of a job.

I have been welding up a bike tank this morning. The whole lower
rear corner was like rice paper. Built it right up though and it looks really
good. Well pleased with my efforts.
Second one I have done I a month. Word is getting round in the Biking
fraternity too it seems.
Anyway good luck with the rest of the Mot .

Spent a couple of hours trying to weld up the tank, but there is just nothing there to weld, the steel is like a sieve. It's so thin in places you can just push a screw driver through it. Ground it all back to find non rotten steel... but there is not much of it anywhere. Total waste of time, I have got another tank that doesn't leak but its not much better and wont last that long. I might use this one temporary then mould myself a new one out of plastic. Alloy tank is a nice idea, but after buying one for the pickup and the other hardware to fit it I'm not digging that deep again for this work horse van.

Just to put the icing on the cake, just after I got my fail sheet I get a phone call..... "Have you got a fuel tank for hijet van"

I had a little chuckle at the irony of it!

It sounds like another common fault , to add to the list of Hijet problems . I will be taking mine off as soon as possible now to give it a clean and coat of underseal .

Can I now just clarify something , the wiring looms are crap , the petrol tanks leak , they overheat , they all have common rust points , they dont give very good MPG and getting parts can be difficult .

WHY THE HELL DID WE BUY THEM ? Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Eddie .

Hey hey hey, calm down... they do give pretty good MPG and parts are pretty cheap once you know where to find them.

I know why I drive one, because I prefer to be the tosser in the noddy van than the cock end in the average car.

Plus I can fit a fridge freezer or a motorbike or a sofa or 3 dogs and a prostitute in the back.

Which reminds me, I must hoover out the back of my van.

Hiding won't solve it in the long run. Arches and sills tend to rot from the inside out on a Hijet

Brake lines on the other hand, well hiding them does help with MOT's for a bit!

Problem with schutz is its an arse to fix things afterwards when everything is coating with the minging crap.

Mine are redone in copper now, so should out last the van.

If your fuel tank doesn't leak, I would highly recommend coating it with something. I will be doing mine asap.

The mind boggles why you would want 3 dogs in the van , when you already have a prostitute and a settee . Very Happy

Must be one of those dogging trips you mentioned . Very Happy

Cheers
