1.0 3 cylinder Petrol version

Post by colnz on Mon Sep 23, 2013 10:07 am

Hi all,

New member I'm a from New Zealand with a few questions.

I've bought my 88 1.0 litre 3 cyl Hijet to convert to either a bigger engine or to fit the Honda CBR1100 engine I've got
in the garage although for now my first thought is to go the easiest option of juyst upgrading to a terrios motor.

Most of the articles I see are referring to conversions of the 1,3ltr to a 1.6. Are the engine mounts in the 1.0 the same
as those in the 1.3? and can I keep my gearbox or do I need to swap the whole shabang, engine gearbox, drive shaft etc ??

Any advice of links would be much appreciated

Before I spout on - I have never done a CB (3 cylinder) to H series (4 cylinder) conversion.

But....

I think the front engine support tube that bolts to the chassis and take the engine mounts is very different, and the parts diagrams and numbers confirms this.

Next the engine mounts for the 1.3 and 993 are different. So you would need to fit the H series - the full 1.3 engine mounts, block brackets, and support frame.

I think the gearboxes are different - I don't know if they are interchangeable.

Next issue is the full efi system is totally different for the H series and CB series. You are best just using a 1.3 hijet loom etc, unless you fancy building a custom loom out of the terios one.

Thats about all I'll say for now, obviously the truth is in the doing Smile

Hmmm sounds like the Honda Blackbird engine conversion might be the easier option

Will you have a reverse gear with that?

Yeah I trotted along a few days ago with the same idea for upgrading my 1L. Apparently the loom is an awkward SOB.
Sounds like the perfect model to mess around with if you're thinking bike engine. If you had a 1.3 the easier 1.6 option would always be a temptation.

I'd love to do one myself but the Beloved is at pains to point out that it's 'her car' and I already have 4 cars to play with. She has a point I guess!Rolling Eyes
