Windscreen!

Post by leopard_pagan on Wed Oct 02, 2013 12:29 pm

As mine now has a nice 1cm crack on the inside skin!
MOT guy said it wont fail (Feb 2014) however it will spread + winters a comin!

just had a quote for a new one at the local windscreen place who also advised against repair as its gone all the way thru.

I know most breakers etc wont deliver windscreens as unreliable in transit...
Any ideas?

I have a good one on the floor next to me.

Can't you just pay your excess on the insurance?

nope. i wont touch my insurance as they fuck you next year for making a claim + my excess is way more than paying for a new one to be fitted...!
Now i am willing to pay for solid packing of this + insurance on shipping... or if anyones headed in my direction & can pick up & i pay fuel etc...
But i need prices to get started.

And heres why i wont touch my insurance on this subject...
"The catch is that it will count as a claim against your motor insurance history. It's a con. The insurance company pay the glass repair company £30-40 to repair the windscreen and they charge you £100 for the next 3 years as a result of you having had a claim. It doesn't affect your no claims... you still get the same discount but the core premium is affected by the claim in your history"

Pretty much all policies with windscreen cover, have a small windscreen excess, and claiming does not effect your no claims or future pricing.

When on compare the market etc does it ask you if you have had any windscreen claims?

One of my friends had 3 windscreens in a couple of months and had no effect on his premium price.

a windscreen claim on a mini buggered mine and my wife premium for about 3 years, tested it by not telling them first and then told them and it shot up, cheaper to do it yourself

I just cut the rubber seal with a stanley, they you can just push the glass out. takes literally 2 minutes to pop the gas out.

But then that seal is for the bin.

Your old screen you want to batter it out or something so you can keep the seal undamaged.

Stay off the curry bom

Most non bonded screens push out, trainer clad feet, push out gently but firmly from the corner, obviously you need someone on the outside Laughing

I changed the screen on ours down the breakers with a stanley if you cut carefully you can do it single handed takes about 5 mins so you don't drop it then run a old smooth screw driver around your old screen/seal and squirt WD40 or similar as you go and expect the screen to crack as you push it out start in a corner. putting in is a little more hard work and a 2 person job as the lack of bonnet and a fairly steep screen angle means you can't just lay the screen over the seal and and the curve don't let you string it in but get one lower corner in work across and up from that point with the diagonal corner being the last to go in use loads of lube.
