FUEL CAP ISSUSES.

Post by bikerming on Thu Jun 24, 2010 9:24 am

Hi all,i have a problem with my 1.2D van.when i've been travelling for a while, mostly at speed the engine starts to die and then speeds back up.we thought it was the rev limiter kicking in,then we thought as i'd filled the tank up it was dirt getting sucked into the filter.it does it after a longish trip.my dad, a mechanic for many years then recalled a problem he had seen on a ford anglia in the 60's.the fuel cap has no breather hole and a vacuam is building up in the tank and restricting fuel flow.

should my fuel cap have a breather hole or is it on the tank somewhere?

fairly sure this is the problem as when it happens if i stop and open the cap it makes a whooshing noise and is then fine for a while.

My fuel cap leaks....

If I have to stop on a hill, and I am facing down, fuel starts to dribble out around the cap....

I need to fix it, but I cant see why it does it...
