One of ours is like this. Crying or Very sad
I was thinking of removing the glass to see if I can clean them up, if not I'll spray the inside with chrome effect spray. Smile

the chrome should be there for the light to have the correct beam pattern depending on how bad it is you may get away with it for MOT as for taking it apart if you can get the sealent out then you would be better to get it to a good chrome plater to strip polish and replate chrome effect paint might just bodge it but I would doubt it would cut the mustard for long with out removing the orginal problem corrosion doesn't just go away.

i bought some better ones and it passed but i spoke to a mechanic and he said as long as the beam pattern shone as a v(small at the bottom, wide at the top)it would pass.

tin foil will work for an MOT fix...

I have done it on a motorbike...
the reflector was very rusty, so opened the headlight, gave it a gentle sand with emery paper, and then glued some tin foil (shiny side out) and it worked fine...

So after much cleaning effort and no success, I used this

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rub-n-Buff-Silver-Leaf/dp/B00275X5HG

My friend is a master engraver and recommended it - It's dead simple to use just worked it into a cloth strip around my finger and then applied it as far as I could reach with my finger. For the bits I couldn't reach I bent a coat hanger wire into a long finger shape and made effectively a cloth cotton bud shape and finished it off. Allow to dry and repeat process with clean soft cloth to buff it up.

And the best bit? it sailed through the MOT this morning.. yay!!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I should also say that it was really badly tarninshed about 90 of it!

While moving?

That tape you get from B&Q near the sheets of kingspan insulation, basically sticky back alluminium foil works great too.
Another ghetto trick:- to get bonded glass headlights open shove them in the oven for 20 minutes at 80 degrees to soften the glue. Then prise open with credit cards. T-cut pollish and/or a hot air paint stripping gun can sometimes fix cloudy plastic headlight lenses depending on the plastic. And if you break rear ones you can cut squares out of a random red lense with a glowing stanley blade over a blow lamp... then fuse the perfect fitting patch into the broken one with a soldering iron.

Oh its like house wifes cleaning tips! Oh those cum stains are a pain.
