Fuel gauge

Post by FrontBackSide2Side on Mon Nov 25, 2013 11:16 am

I picked up my hijet yesterday and am overall really pleased with it Smile however there are a few niggles to sort, one of which is the fuel gauge doesn't work, it always shows empty. Would this be the sender unit? If so any idea where I can get one and is it a difficult job etc?

I'm not sure, I'm a bit scared to let it get so low as I don't know how much fuel I have Sad

Keep a can full in the back, then run it till it starts cutting out.

What if the light does/doesn't come on then? I might syphon the fuel out, save it cutting out in an inconvenient place.

Mine might be repairable yet but i wanted to find out just incase as im putting in an order with this ebay seller for some other parts and thought this seemed like a good price for a brand new OEM part Smile

That looks very much like what you need. You'll probably either find that the cable has corroded and snapped at the top of the sender or the float that slides up and down has fell out of the tube and is floating about in the tank.

Had a look today whilst swapping the tank. The float was still inside the unit and appeared to be free enough. I repaired some corroded/broken wiring. The fuel light works now or at least it was on when I started the engine, the gauge is still on empty so I will put some fuel in later and see if it moves and hopefully the light will go out too. Fingers crossed! Smile

lol yep thats one way to look at it. I've ordered that new sender off ebay now so i'll wait for that to turn up and just not fill the tank right the way up for now. Think i'll fill the tank with water before refitting it this time.

Wouldn't fill it with water, you've just replaced a rusty tank. No point in starting the new one rusting already. Once you've done it six or seven times you'll can do it with your eyes shut..... Razz
