New Member - with an oldish Piaggio Porter Van

Post by Chassyh on Thu Apr 03, 2014 3:54 pm

Hi

Ive joined this forum to find out more about Piaggios and their older cousins Daihatsu Hijets. There seems to be not much info on the net, very little help from dealers including the main one in Hull. New spares are impossible to get/crazily expensive, I'm patching my '56 Porter up with second-hand Hijet spares!!

Does anyone know of an engine fault code reader that will work on our machines? Or a work-around to help identify why the Engine Management Light is on, and how to switch it off.

Thanks

Hi, welcome to the wacky world of Hijets Smile

Any cheap obd reader will work, socket is under the dash rhs. Mine cost a tenner delivered.

Welcome to the forum!

I bought a Vgate VS600 OBD2 tool and am very impressed with it. I think they are around £25 so a bit more than the one Logi has but i'd definetley recommend it, although i haven't seen Logi's.

Another welcome. Where in the world are you?

I've heard that not many people have seen Logi's....

I'm in North Staffordshire, the van performs well at altitude until the snow falls then it don't go anywhere!! That rear wheel drive has a lot to answer for!

Hmm I know what you mean, but I'm more concerned with the high winds I get around here, so much so that I have sorted a 'Windy route' to get to places when I need to be there in adverse conditions!! I need the reader as I have a recurring Oxygen sensor problem, the management light comes on, I have it cleared, it stays OK for maybe a month then deja vu! Wonder if this is a common problem?

I'm having the same code but i think mine is caused by a misfire throwing un burnt fuel into the exhaust thus giving the O2 sensors strange readings.

Yes I too have got the V-Gate 600 scanner though I was obviously robbed as I paid £30 each for the two I bought.
Has got me out of trouble several times but I am still learning how to use its many functions.

Welcome to Hi-Jet World. You will certainly find all of the help you need on this superb Forum.

Talking of snow as you were. I put 10-12 bags of sand in the back of mine and it goes where even Land Rovers struggle --- though that's not hard thinking about it. Hideously hopeless horrible heaps !!!

Thanks one and all, I have purchased a V-Gate 600 from EBay, my local motor shop man doesn't sell any scanners as they are 'Too specific'.

Plugged in, found the error I was expecting - Oxygen sensor Bank 2, cleared the codes, all peachy. Light has not (yet) come back on, but I know what to do when it does!!

Thanks again. HighlyJetted, I have viewed your establishment on Google Earth. I will try and pop in when I'm in town if that is OK by you ??

Regards

Chas

Don't think so, but keeping track of real life names and forum usernames is more than I am capable of.
