New Happy HiJet Owner

Post by mark81 on Mon Jul 14, 2014 5:49 pm

Hi, hope everyone is well?

I'm a happy owner of a HiJet 1300 EFI - I picked up the Van today & drove her from East Sussex to Gloucestershire! with no problems whatsoever - even on the M25! Just been out poking around under the passenger seat & noticed when I unscrewed the pressurized coolant cap that no coolant was visible? I have read this in the buyers guide being a potential problem? however after traveling many miles today with no issues I'm a little baffled. The Van has full service history so I'm assuming that I have air in the system? Assumption is a dangerous game!

Sorry to dive in the deep end! any suggestions or reassurance would be appreciated.

Thanks Mark

Welcome! Where in E. Sussex did you find it?

Your cooling system needs water fast! HJ has detailed instructions on how to do it which can be found here: http://www.daihatsuhijet.co.uk/hijet-coolant-and-radiator-bleeding/

Thanks for the link.

Paddock wood / Tonbridge. Drove her from Rye Harbour to Cheltenham without a problem. The temperature gauge never climbed past half way even in stationary traffic on the M25. I have topped the coolant system up ready for a 70 mile commute to work tomorrow. apart from this concern the Van is awesome! I feel connected to the whole driving experience - without the numbing sensation of power steering.

Thanks

Yeah Mark, they drive like a proper car, back when they made you actually drive a car.

I love them.
