Or find out what other cars have the same alternator, very few are specifically made for one model only.

( tho, it IS Daihatsu......)

I believe that a company bought the dynamo tooling from Lucas and used it to make alternators in dynamo casings for classics which must be kept in concours condition. As far as I remember they were mainly low output because the cars they are meant for had low output dynamos but I think they might have had some larger output ones in the larger cases.
Unfortunately, as I remember they were rather expensive.

I think I found out about them in Practical Classics magazine so you might find a copy with an appropriate advert. They also did a fitting guide in one issue a few years ago so you might be able to get a back copy.

I forgot to say:

1) They don't come with pulleys so you need to use the one from the existing dynamo.
2) Some or all of them are positive earth so no use in a Hijet.

A quick google for 'positive earth alternator' came up with http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/product_list/168
or http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/category/166
or http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/product/893/category/141
This doesn't seem to be the same company but they also sell 75A ordinary alternators for about £50 which may be of use.

They don't seem to be the same ones but are similar. There seem to be a few companies doing this now, must be lucrative.

I've added a bit more to the original post as it seemed best to keep it all together.

Well, I managed to dig the magazine out last night. It was 'Classics Monthly' Nov 2009 p64.

The company was Powerlite www.powerlite-units.com using the Dynalite brand name, which is the one sold by AES above. They still exist and provide high torque starter motors and other types of alternator so there seems to plenty of choice for that sort of pert.

Then again, most Hijet owners are too tight to buy new stuff Wink

True but I got the impression that some of it was cheaper than Daihatsu stuff.
