Gold Plated Headlights??

Post by Guest on Sat Oct 25, 2014 2:23 pm

Last year Matt and I were selling Headlights for £50 each and cringing at asking at that price.
Most recently the "normal" price in the Breakers has been upwards of £125 each.
But yesterday I was contacted by a customer who was going to pay £250 from a Breakers in Birmingham.!!!

Unbelievable prices. But I won't part with one even at that price. I sold a 993 Headlight in the week for £30 as I have a few but none of them are brilliant - - if you will pardon the pun.
I have an Extol Van I can't make up my mind whether to break or sell whole and on E-bay headlights range from £15 to £51+vat. But other bits for it are crazy money.
Rather sell it complete for £350 I think, and let someone else do the dirty work.

Head lights really are the big problem nowadays with Hijets.

They are literally made of unobtanium.

If or when my headlights finally die, I'll be looking to gut the cases and fit a set of Hella projector headlights in place of the bowl and lens.

As an aside, I remember reading on here that LHD headlight units are cheap and relatively plentiful. Question: Is the bowl refelector the same between LHD and RHD units?

Yes, just the lens is different.

Fancy opening a brand new headlight you've just spent a couple of hundred quid on?

The bowl is the same. It's the glass that does the direction. Last year they were available on Ebay from Italy for 45€ euros.
They are sky high now and of course Right Hand Dip.
There was someone on Ebay advertising new Hi-Jet Headlights for £350 but I believe that when pressured admitted they were Continental ones.

Valeo don't have any.

Daihatsu UK, Japan or Italy don't have any.

There might be an odd one on the shelf of a dealership somewhere collecting dust.

Bond Bug were the oblong ones like those fitted to the 993 Hi-Jets Ron. Got some pictures of an immaculate Bond Bug that lives in Ventnor 5 miles from me.

Projector lights:

Dipped beam: 29 quid

Main beam:  another 29 quid

Dimensions are around 80mm high, 95 wide and 140mm deep including dome of projector.  More compact units are available.

Yeuk!!! But I understand everyones desperation. I can't afford to sell ANY as I need them for sales vehicles. I am due to reretire in March and just a month ago my dearest friend Stan died and left me a HUGE legacy so I won't have to work once its sorted.

I can play at Hi-Jets and will put a lot of effort into sorting common Hi-Jet problems like manufacturing bottom suspension arms in steel box section . I have got so many ideas on the drawing board and will have the time and money to do things for Hi-Jet Owners.
I am getting so fed up with saying"sorry no I can't help". So hopefully I will next year be able to say Yes, I can help.
