As of tomorrow..

Post by Anne-Karina on Fri Oct 31, 2014 11:10 am

I will be the proud owner of a 95 Hijet, which I am planning to convert to a micro camper. It's in ok shape - passed the road safety test a few months ago.
Just needs a new back door and seats.. also.. well.. maybe more.. that's a surprise Smile

Really looking forward to it, as this is my childhood dream coming true.

(If anyone knows what seats fit, I'd appreciate it - but after posting this hello-topic, I will go see if I can find the info myself)

And as soon as I can, I will post pictures. It's been the pick up service van for a scooter company, so some modifications have been made to the interior that are not really an improvement.

My plan is to put in a stove, sink (but no freshwater tank, just a place for a jerrycan), some cupboards and a chair that turns into a bed... What a Face

I do appreciate all tricks and tips I can get - this is my first car I will be working on (but I will have a lil help from some mechanic friends of mine)

Nice to meet you all!

I've seen what you did as well - cool!

Would you happen to know which seats I can replace with? Cuore?

Welcome Anne - Karina. The seats from the MPV (for the rear) is the easiest choice but the vans don't have the seat bolt mountings in the floor or on the door pillar for the seat belts either.
If you are going to put a folding bed in then you need to work out your floor plan. The single MPV seat has tip forward facility and the rear double seat folds flat in the upright position. Thinking about it you may be able to mount it sideways against the van side.
As regards the front seats their are quite a lot posts on here about using Smart Car seats.

aaah i now know which hijet you bought
was it the one with a scooter on top of the hijet?

i did post the advert in my project topic some time ago Smile (page 2)

as for the seats
a lot of seats will probably fit with a litle adjusting.
the standard seats are bolted trough with 4 bolts.
so if you find seats that fit and are not to high you can easily weld 4 bolts under the new seats and fit them on the same spot.

like woody said smart seats are an easy option and a lot of people did them so will fitt 100%.
i fitted celica t23 seats because i liked them a lot and cam across a cheap pair.
and i can swap the covers for leather ones or to wash them.

Yes! That is the one!
Unfortunately, the Marktplaats link did not work anymore, I was curious to see what it looked like back then.

I drove it home and my van was full of smoke by the time I got home - it had not been driven for a long time, so the oil and gunk got hot.. oh well Smile I knew what I got myself into.

I'll go check for smart car seats then, I'm not too good at welding (read: have never done that..but I'm guessing I will learn a whole lot about cars and engines and welding etc soon). I just came across a couple of Cuore seats for a good price, so hoped that would work.
thanks for all your replies!

i am no welder myself.
but maybe you know somebody who can.

i took them to a friends shop who did it for me.
i already did the measurments myself
and put a litle cross where the bolts had to come so the welder doesnt have to spent a lot of time fiddiling around with them.

if you do it that way i cant imagine that it will cost that much.
my welder/friend spend 3-5 minutes on them Very Happy
