New member 1.3 vs 1.0

Post by richardsoniscool on Mon Oct 11, 2010 10:04 pm

Pants! iv put his in the wrong section! could admin please move thx.

Hi, im a new member im yet to get myself a Hijet but im on the search. Me and my Girlfriend would ike it for weekends camping ( we don't need alot of room) and as a general runabout, so im looking at the MPV version as it seems to be the most versatile. There are a couple on ebay at the minute, one is a 1.3 with 80k on the clock but is a bit scruffy, the other is a 1.0 with only 34k but has an overheating problem. im unsure of which to go for as im a competent home mechanic so the overeating doesn't worry me but the 1.0 engine might be a little too sluggish for me. Has anyone compared the two?

here are the links for the ones on ebay. cheers. Mike

Hi welcome, we were looking at the 1.3 but it was too far for us it would have been a up grade to as we have the 1.0 at the mo and the other one was to far away with a problem that may or may not be straight forward as the question is why has it got a air lock if it were round the corner it would have been a different matter.

At the end of the day, the hijet isnt a very powerful vehicle in either engine...

the 1.3 I think produces around 60hp
the 1.0L is around 48hp.

But they have the advantage, that they are fairly light...

I have a 1.0L and its great Smile
It will do ~80mph on the flat if you push it.

But a month or 2 ago, I had 12 bags of sand (25kg each) and 4 bags of cement (also 25kg each), so 400kg in it.
And it still pulled to 60mph with ease, and even on a long hill out of a 30mph village, it accelerated to 55mph easily...

I havent been in a 1.3 but I reckon it would be nippier, but the 1.0L has a 3 cylinder engine, so its surprisingly grunty Smile

Economy, I heard the 1.3 is a little better, but I get 30~35mpg from my 1.0L, and I thrash it to be perfectly honest Razz

Either way though, enjoy it Smile

hey, thanks for the replies, i bid on the 1.3 silver one and got outbid by 20 quid >( but i won the 1.0 blue one which im happy about. its done really low miles and i hope the overheating wont be too hard to fix ill justtake some tool a new rad cap and lots of coolant with me.

and it only gonna cost me £35 to get from Suffolk to Bristol on the train Razz

expect a build, project, modding type thread up here very soon.

Beware of underestimating the dreaded over-heating in Hi-jets. affraid Twisted Evil
It might be worth checking out how to bleed the system before you go.http://wp.me/pVul6-1D

Mine overheated when I got it (well it started too Razz)

I kept topping the coolant up, but got fed up.

So I got a pot of K Seal, and poured it into the radiator.

That was a while ago now Smile
No problems since...

I highly recommend K Seal to anyone. Its the only fix that actually seems to work, and not make matters worse...
