Should never have took the bed off!

What started as a couple of little jobs turned into having to investigate the dreaded overheating issue which in turn then lead to a previous owners bodge of wiring. It was easier to drop the bed off to get to the rear loom and its turned into a full blown rebuild! So much for a little truck to run around in, not much running around, gonna be parked up for weeks!

A lot of the wiring has now been redone, new engine earth, complete new loom to rear lights and bulb holder conversion thanks to Woody. Found that the exhaust tailpipe section had rotted off and the exterior of the silencer was very rotten. I'll post some photos of it hopefully on friday but due to lack of funds the exhaust has had some extensive welding and a bit of fab work to bring it back to good. Brand new stereo wired in as well but today found another issue. The rear chassis looked in good nick whilst covered in dry mud but once cleaned i have some holes in my chassis that need welding up so i'll try and get that done on Friday. For every job i get completed i find two more. I keep telling myself that theres no need to be a perfectionist on my little truck, but then i said that on the two Mk1 Escorts that i last restored and the shells were 2 years of welding each alone. I just need to get the HiJet back together and in use before it joins my long queue of cars that need work!

If you look through the album you can see the continued progress. Chassis now welded repairs put in, rubbed down, painted with red oxide and top coated with black tractor enamel. Brake and fuel lines rubbed down and red oxided and then were going to be heavily greased but the LSPV was found to be goosed and upon removing it the brake lines twisted and sheared so I've had to repipe parts of it. New thermostat fitted, new rocker cover gasket fitted and subsequently because of a persistant oil leak the dizzy was taken out and I replaced the o ring on it. Timing belt fit today. Getting there!

Ahhh, I'm confused now, as you said dissy oil seal, so I thought you must have a 993cc.

But from the photos you have a 1.3!!

So I guess you mean the cam sensor oil seal.

Yep sorry, you're totally correct, cam sensor! Had a blonde moment there.

Truck is now in for MOT and although the Mrs says it looks no different the truck has had substantial works carried out. Highlights are the rear light wiring with advice and parts from Woody to upgrade the rear lights to plastic bulb holders, new radiator caps from HJ and a new thermostat with fresh fluid in the system and following HJ's guide for bleeding has sorted the overheating and a new cam belt has given me piece of mind. We'll see what the MOT man has to say in a few days.

Got my truck back yesterday and it passed its MOT with no advisories! Many thanks to Woody for the parts that made this possible. Now to move on to tidying up the interior a little to make things a little more comfortable.
