Are these an easy fix

Post by Raggy on Wed Jun 24, 2015 10:07 pm

Thought I had posted this before but cant find it, so appologies if it appears twice! After looking through a few adverts etc seems there are a couple common problems, fuel guage not working and door handle from outside broken. Are these 'easy' fixes? I know the answer could be 'how long is a piece of string' but wondered if they are issues that cost alot to fix, worthwhile knowledge when haggling a price.

Proper good condition sliding door handles are getting hard to find.

A guy sells poor fitting poor quality copies on ebay for about £20 each.

They work - for a bit.

Fuel gauge - half the time its the ground wire, the other half its the fuel float itself.

You have to take the fuel tank out, and a brand new sender can be ordered from italian ebay for about £45.

Those sliding door handles he sells don't quite fit do they? You need to file a bit of the plastic off to make them fit snug. They're also quite fragile so unless you have a sweetly gliding door and have instructed the kids/wife/whoever to be gentle, they're going to break again.

I need to do both of mine but last time I tried it was a nightmare. Never quite got the mechanism to work properly.

My sliding door handles are fubared. My easy fix is to reach inside and open via the internal door release. I don't see it as an inconvenience, merely an added security feature. clown

Trouble is, non working sliding door handles are an MOT failure (for the MPV at least). So when mine failed I gave them two door handles and said "ok, you fit them then". Did a good job too.

Yes, if there are rear seats the handles must be present.

I fit a washer between the handle and the door. They still don't last long, though.

If you pack them off with washers they will break quicker due to the force applied to the tapped bosses.
