Wrong wheel cylinders

Post by PFM on Fri Dec 03, 2010 6:41 pm

Had a prob recently when my 1995 998 S41 failed the MOT. The garage kept ordering wheel cylinders but they were all wrong (not genuine, £55 each seemed a tad on the high side). I got some via a local factor which fitted, but each had one pipe entry (plus a bleed nipple). Apparently on my van, the pipes originally fed one side to the other, so one cylinder needed 2 pipe entries. Got round it by using a t-piece, but has anyone else had the same problem? Also LH thread track rod ends are not easy to find, but I got one in the end.

I thought all vehicles used a t piece :S

I wouldnt have thought the braking pressure would have been equal otherwise...

Surely hydraulic pressure in a sealed system is the same at all points in that system?

in theory yes, but there can be slight differences really...

but I would have thought if the other brake was actuated via the first one, it wouldnt get quite as much pressure anyway....

every brake system I have seen (cars, vans, motorbikes, etc) all run the brakes in parallel (either a seperate line from the master cylinder or a t piece in a line)....
