A little surgery on a 993 engine, with pictures

Post by Lex_Michdebus on Thu Oct 22, 2015 12:34 am

So I bought a second panel van exactly the same as my first van for the roof rack and the bull bar. It had the engine taken out and I thought it would be interesting to show some pictures of the patient.

So here goes... (Pictures can be clicked for higher resolution!)

Van full of scrap metal!

Just for the record so they go back in the same spot when put back:

Marked valve rockers and their orientation recorded:

I'm not sure if this is still a good idea...

Hot heads... Doesn't look good...

That's broken for sure!

There's a lot of play on the oil pump gear, so that part needs replacement... Our guess: it lost oil pressure through the bearing/seal of the gear of the oil pump which resulted in not enough oil on the scratched parts... Are we close? Or is it just the same old same old hotness? I bought it from someone with no idea to what happened, so there's no known history.

A little disappointing, but I'm still optimistic. Any tips and tricks you guys can give me? Anything you want to see?

And a question: is there a way to get these two thingies out so I can remove the camshafts and valves? How do I remove the valve rockers and valves?

I'm going to try to get it running again in the coming months... "Can we fix it?" Wish me luck!

Is it because nobody ever done it before or are you just trying to see me suffer and squeal...
