Borrowed my mums car ... But ...

Post by elfin girl on Mon Jan 11, 2016 9:44 pm

So, as my mum is out of the country and my brother doesn't need it this week I have the use of my mums car while van is at garage ... However..
It's a Citroen c3 automatic and it doesn't change gear when it should! Now maybe I'm driving it wrong I'm not used to automatics but I've not had this driving other automatics before..
Driving the few mins to work it screams down the road in 1st gear, even at 30mph
down the dual carriageway at 70mp it only got as far as 3rd gear
I did manage to get into 2nd gear around town but that needed a stretch of road with nobody in front of me so I could put my foot down sharply
Any ideas?
My brother said he hadn't noticed a problem but he drives like a stoned old lady so I can't take his word!

Not familiar with Shitroens, but is it a proper auto or a CVT?

Slightly off topic but related, wife has a DS3, first time she drove it she thought she was stalling it...until daughter pointed out it was meant to shut off and auto restart engine at lights etc to save fuel! Oops! Sorry cant help with relevant info about the auto!

I think they are semi automatics, maybe it's starting in "manual" mode so you'll need to click the gear lever thing forward to change up? Or its just French and broken of course.

Raggy, she's not the only one - my wife was always 'stalling' our Auris when we first got it!

Haha, I sorted it ... I was pushing the "stick" all the way over to meet the D sign, seems that also meets the M so I shouldn't have been pushing all the way over, it's supposed to be just to right of the D .. Well that makes sense!

RTFM can be a way of avoiding having to buy a Mum a new gearbox! Well done for sorting it though.
