Three Years and Counting.

Post by Woodie on Sun Feb 07, 2016 2:13 pm

Where have they gone?? I joined the Micro Van Owners Forum on 02/02/2013 and now 1,970 posts in total, later, I am still here after a brief sojourn in December/January.

I must admit that originally the reason I joined like many members, was looking for answers to a problem with one of my Hi-Jet Pickups. Amazingly enough not even Matt (Highly Jetted) had an answer so the truck is still sat in my yard until I can take the body of and dismember the wiring loom to trace the elusive fault.

But I had such a laugh on here, right from the first welcome message from Emmabskin, to Logi calling me (at 63) " another young whippersnapper", that with my dreadfully ascerbic wit, it seemed a great platform for a lot of leg pulling. Believe me it hasn't dissapointed.
But what is sad and dissapointing, is the number of great, supportive, knowledgeable members we have lost in the past three years. Particularly, I would like to thank Leopard Pagan (Admin.)whose brainchild and foresight this Forum is the fruitage of, and who gives of her valuable time monitoring and advising and refereeing on the Forum. I'm sure I echo many of our longest serving members thanks to her as well.
As many of you know the other biggest thanks goes to Matt, Highly Jetted for the collosal amount of input into this Forum literally days
after Leopard Pagan started it. Also to Matt's long suffering wife too.
Matt is still with us I am so pleased to say but has a thriving business in Auto Diagnostics and it has taken him in another direction away from Hi-Jets sadly for us.
Over the years we have had such great input and knowledge from Rich the Mechanic, Logi, D1noh who is still around and has good knowledge of my personal dislike - Diesel Hi-Jets. Waz ( where are you), PFM, Raggy, Bushwacker, 8bitAsh, Kentgpz11, singledad, Penny PP, Eightpot, Scotia, Melboy (owns the only all original SE Hi-Jet on here), Xxemaphorr, Eddie0303, Elwood, Hi-Jet1300GT, Lab_rat835, Emma (previously mentioned). Bit of a trip down memory lane, but many good memories.
So the message to all our new members is - - Please have an active part in the Forum. Keep it alive with your input, be it questions, information, new things learned, and above all humorous. No matter what age we can all learn new skills. EXCEPT POSTING PICTURES!!
Don't you even go there Logi you rat!!

I still pop in occasionally.
Can't contribute much as the Hijet has gone to the great car park in the sky. Crying or Very sad
It was beyond help, as it had sat in my garden unloved since 2010.

I felt guilty for neglecting it, so I cleaned it before the scrapman came for it. Rolling Eyes

I'm relying almost entirely on this site to circumvent as best it can my ineptitude, and with luck keep my new pride and joy alive. Regarding the above scrapped Hijet, what went wrong with it? It looks in great condition-

Take the Mickey?? How can you even suggest such a thing E.G.? This is strictly an Anoraks Only type of Forum with serious subjects discussed at great lengths.

Both headlights were badly tarnished inside to MOT failure standards.
Petrol tank starting to rust.
Quite a bit of rust underneath.
Rear brakes & lspv only just scraped through last MOT with all garage staff sat in back of van to weigh it down. Laughing
Occasional overheating when stood in traffic.

It was a great little van, but it was uneconomical to repair & I'd already replaced it with a mk5 Transit.

thanks kentgpz11, I'm trying to soak up some of the potential failings of these vans.. all the cars I've had died of rust (3 nissans) so planning to underseal this one when it gets warmer. On the plus side, at least you can drive a transit van over a speed bump..!

...but on the plus plus side a Hijet will often fit between speed cushions or even between them and the kerb!

in London so far I've not fitted between them, and get the slightly worrying feeling they might pinch the wheels at the side and pop them...

The only pinching likely up there, is your wheels, or your complete motor Daniel.

Maybe, but this would be a better project and scope these days for much higher profit, wish I had the room and budget to do another one.

That Cat C is close to me but I don't recall seeing it on the road. Might have a gander as it looks as though he's got an older pick-up too.

It is a 993cc and not worth doing. Only good for spares and MAXIMUM of £100 to buy it. Will have to be transported too, adding to the cost. Even if it was a 1300 I personally would break it for spares.

It went for £105 - I didn't get to see it due to spending the afternoon at A&E with my Mother!
