Only one more to go

Post by HighlyJetted on Sun Mar 13, 2016 6:02 am

An end of an era and all that,

Two lads from Staffordshire came round this morning and took my hijet which was full of Hijet parts.

This evening a local rag bone man has taken away most of the other bits of hijet I had knocking around.

All I have to do is sell 1 more van and I'll no more Hijetism anymore.

WTF? How very selfish. Surely this cannot be allowed to happen? Don't you realise you are needed here?

And if any of those sold vehicles/spares included passenger side headlights or snazzy alloys, you are in BIG trouble!

Don't be stupid Sputnik!! Matt knows what gold dust is, and Hi-Jet head lights are probably rarer than gold. 3 years ago he and I were selling headlights for £35 each and people were grizzling then. And yes you are right - - it is a sad day that Matt has cut his practical ties with Hi-Jet's.

Now I can get £150 + per headlight and people are glad to pay it to keep their Hi-Jet on the road. It sounds mercenary, but it's business. Quite often little items I give away and don't even charge the postage. Swings and roundabouts.

I did something very silly this morning...

Although yesterday I pulled out my pickup, washed it down, tarted it up and listed it on ebay here:-

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172132572450?ssPageName=STRK:MEUNSOLD:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1560.l2649

This morning I bought on ebay, a complete 1200cc yamaha motorbike, then removed the Hijet from ebay !!!

Bought the worst bike ever, unseen on ebay. As you do, drove to nottingham, chucked it in the back of my Transit connect in the dark, drove home.

You will see it in all its beauty here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231876587363

Ripped all the junk off it, ripped the whole wiring harness off it.

Made up a new wiring loom which just does the CDI, coil packs, crank sensor.

Took the plugs out, put a load of oil down the bores....

Got the jump leads out and......

It has got some nice bits buried in there, like a digital speedo clock, with wheel pickup - which does the tell tails for main beam, indicators, oil pressure and neutral.

Plus an electric fuel pump, starter motor relay block.

The bike has been ripped to pieces. Its heart is on my workshop floor.

My pickup is in my workshop.

I have gathered together engineering resources to get this show on the road.

Over the next few days I will get the engine mounted - e.g. some brackets welded in to carry the engine.

And I will get the propshaft/sprocket conversion sorted.

And the wiring harness sorted.

My up most priority in all of this, is to not crash this thing when its done.

I quite like that. Laughing
The engine sounds good & you got genuine Koso speedo, decent rear shock, Renthal's & an ammo box.

I've bought worse.

A bit of inspiration for you.

This week I have mostly been bin dipping!

I have found loads of nice steel plate, box section and tube for the fabrication side of this project.

I now know a few local business which fill skips full of nice steel off cuts Very Happy

Got a suzuki Jimny telescopic prop to use, which needs shortening.

Need to make up an adapter on a mates lathe, to go from the sprocket to a drive flange.

And the gear selector is just the original Hijet gear lever, locked off so it only goes in one axis, which operates the Yamaha selector peg.

Certainly more fun than your original plans for "Ernie" with a 1600 Daihatsu Engine.

How many BHP does the engine develop Matt and maximum RPM?
Any way of getting a reverse gear on it ?

This is a pretty sedate gentle bike engine. 130bhp with a limiter of 9500rpm.

For the reverse, say you want to parallel park... I was thinking about using a lamp post and some bungee chord.

Or maybe a caravan mover.

Five years ago I would literally have picked it up and slid it into a parking place. Doing things like that is where I got my nickname of the Incredible Hulk from. I didn't turn green though - just shades of red or purple.

Them days are gorn. I managed to pick up and carry the 1300 lump out of my lower store last week that I sent to Maralions in Preston, but that at now 66 is the best I can manage.

Ah right. I remember you turning the front wheel hub bearing housings down. Whilst I not having a lathe or the expertise resorted to clamping the stub assembly in the vice and ground the bearing housing down with an Angle Grinder with the disc spinning at quite a rate of nots. Did the job though.
