Post by Logi on Tue Mar 15, 2016 7:29 pm

Sootyvan has only gone and popped a bloody wheel cylinder Sad
Ok, those in the know, as I've had sfa to do with the rear brakes, how do you get the shoes off? Do you need to pukl the half shaft? It's a gooey mess in there, and I'm having to do it on the drive as the Merc is in the garage. Crying or Very sad

Just take drum off - it has threaded holes to use an old bolt to pop it off the hub.

Then shoes come off by taking the retainer springs, and the two little twist retainers which hold them to the backing plate.

Then clamp the flexi down to the rear axle.

Heat the flare nuts up with a blow torch. Undo them without fucking the pipe.

Fit new one.

Rebuild, and bleed up while keeping the LSPV in the upwards position so its pushing on the valve, using the pedal press method or whatever.

Cheap as chips the rear slave cylinder, very very very common failure.

The issue is with the shoes, drums off, cylinder's changed, can't get the f"ckin shoes back on due to the handbrake mech, wont fit past the wheel cylinder and can't get the bassa to fit in the wee slot for the auto adjuster when in position.

I'm due to punch the shit out of it soon. Mad

Well, that's that fixed, found an easier option, gave ir to a friend who has a garage and they fixed it Smile
Just couldn't be arsed with fannying about with it any more. Best bottle of whisky I've parted with in a while.
