Multiple misfires

Post by Steveincornwall on Tue May 03, 2016 7:02 am

My 2008 1.3 porter (1100 miles) showed engine management light yesterday. I checked the codes with a reader and it said cylinder 2 and 4 have multiple misfires, even though as far as I am aware it hasn't missed a beat.
Any ideas, my thoughts: change plugs, leads and coils if needed?
Thanks
Steve

Reset it, see if/when it comes back.

Write down the exact code number, as the piaggio/daihatsu definitions might be different from generic obd2 definitions.

1,100 miles in 8 years? Sounds like it needs a good run!

HJ thanks for you help, I cleared the codes and gave it a run, just checked and it is no longer showing any errors. I will keep an eye on it and see what happens.

Should be 11,000. Pickup spent its previous years on a RAF base and was used to collect and pick up spares. Gave it a good run when I bought it and have added a 1000 miles since.

Changed plugs and misfire went away for a few weeks. Light came on again at weekend, this time reader says 1,3 and4 (P0301,P0303andP0304) are misfiring! Although pickup appears to run fine it seems to happen when under load i.e. when in wrong gear.
Any advice welcome?

Compression test it.

No not LPG, will check compression. All a bit odd as I can drive 100+ miles without any problem, then management light comes on!

Might have a dodgy igniter box - its bolted onto the rocket cover.
