Hijet Brake Pins

Post by stevelav on Thu Jun 23, 2016 12:37 pm

Hi, I'm trying to remove the two pins holding the brake pads to the front calipers but they are thoroughly rusted in!

As far as I can tell you cant remove the caliper without removing the brake pins and it looks like the only way would be to cut the brake pins in the middle and then separate the two halves of the caliper which looks like a pain of a job and could leave me needing new calipers.

I think I might just leave it and try getting my van mot'd at another garage as I think they could have been bs ing me saying that the service brakes are below efficiency and that the upper strut bearing is too rough as they all seem ok to me.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks

I use the force created by pressing the brake pedal to split the caliper in half when you remove the two bolts. Get someone standing on the pedal, then a little gentle tapping with a hammer.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
So does that mean the pins aren't screwed into the calliper that they just push out?

Correct - "corrosion fit" I'd call it

Well that's great thanks, I'm going to try mot'ing at another garage first as it looks like a bugger of a job but if it fails again I'll have to take off the calliper.
Those pins look so rusted in that I'll be surprised if they ever come out, but if they are threaded I suppose I can cut them and drill them out as a last resort.
Thanks
