THEY THINK IT'S ALL OVER - - - WELL IT IS NOW!!

Post by Woodie on Fri Jul 29, 2016 9:21 am

I was happily pottering  away in Ventnor  on a little job for some OAP friends of ours Thursday when both my phones started going berserk. Text messages, Voice mail, calls, so many at once I couldn't get through to to return one call.

Eventually I got texts from friends and neighbours up at my garage saying " Get up here, the whole factory site is on fire and you can see the smoke for miles.
Trouble is Ventnor is on the seaward  side a 1000 foot high Hill and and I was there and my garage is the other side of the hill. Not that I would have realised what it was anyway.

When I got over there the Police let me through as I know a good many of them and the Firemen the same. I wasn't allowed too close but enough to realise that although mine wasn't on fire yet it soon would be. I just had to stand there and watch 36 years of occupation catch fire.  I spoke with one of the Fire Commander's and he straight away got a Water Cannon set up in the yard trained on my two storey building which ultimately saved it.

The other two buildings with95%of  all of  my spares is totally gutted -  as was I at the time. The fire had started in the huge 135ft long Woodwork shop behind me and spread to his brothers two storey unit on another side of my building which was totally full of crap, fibreglass canoes, wooden boats, beds, paint aerosols and goodness only knows what else. So my garage was surrounded on two sides by two buildings on fire with only a 6ft alley between the three buildings.
I only had a couple of larger items in my main garage, Compressor and high lift Snap-on Trolley Jack which once again a couple of  my friendly firemen rescued.

Eventually they got the fire out and apart from the adjoining wooden door burning down much of my main Workshop it is just smoke damaged. I went over yesterday and rescued a tool chest and some other useful small expensive stuff and all my headlights were safe. Going over again this morning for another load of bits.

The amazing thing is that not one of the 17 vehicles I had there were damaged in any way. Typical innit!!  They are all fully comprehensively insured  but the tools and stock were uninsureable   because of the state of the Landlord's buildings.
So the week after next it is clear up and clear out time and hopefully retired by the end of the year.

One major problem. We have no electricity and there is no way that will ever be restored. I can at least get the water back on and boil a kettle for a cup of coffee with my Generator but Tim in the builders yard and his woodwork shop across the yard is going to have to buy a much larger generator to run his equipment.

Alan's woodwork shop where the fire  started has lost hundreds of thousands of pounds of brand new woodworking machinery. He has lost totally everything including two cars inside the building which is now unsafe and will probably have to be pulled down inwards as there is a Factory 10 feet away.

Raggy has a load of pictures which when he returns from Scotland in Skylark will hopefully upload some of the pictures.
Any way I can finally retire and dabble at home by the end of the year. Thanks to all of you for your business over the years and I was so glad to be able to have helped so many of you over the last 3 plus years. I will still be running Hi-Jet's for sure and will have more chance now to use my Own Romahome for a more lazy time.

Or will I?? Rolling Eyes!!

Oddly enough it is like having a weight lifted from my shoulders and I am completely relaxed about the whole thing. I can breathe more easily and don't feel so wound up by any means.

It's all going up to the scrapyard except obviously for the undamaged items in my upstairs store  and the gear in the 22ft caravan and also a  Transit Luton body I have as a store too.

I have about 15 sets of pickup sides in the caravan,  loads of seats and MPV tipping seat bases and no doubt loads of stuff I have accumulated and forgotten about over the years.
I will too be taking the best bits off any of the Hi-Jet's I decide to strip down.

I really appreciate Logi's very  sincere concerns and many others too about my taking it easy. I have got a great Doctor now at our surgery, Oommen  John  who I am now on very good terms with  when I was signed off by the Stroke Unit.

He said great you can work gently now and gradually build up your strength and stamina which will help you to strengthen your heart and I have got a number of jobs at my home you can start with. So I have done 5 days work for him and been treated like a Lord with food and drink and enforced dinner and tea breaks. His wife Margarita is Indian and she is a Stroke Unit Specialist. She has been so kind and helpful with advice. It has helped me to get the balance just right. I feel so much better and have lots more energy now. It might sound like I am doing too much but I truly am not.

For once in my life I am taking it relatively easy and listening to valuable advice. I have set myself a target of 4 months to tidy up and mot the best vehicles  for sale and during the winter prepare my latest Mk 5 Romahome for getting away in the spring on my own and just go where and when the mood takes me. A complete change in pace of life. Woody the Gypsy. Sounds good to me.

If you don't know where you're going you'll never get lost. Good luck!

I admire your way of taking it up the arse in life Woody old man. In stead of whining about how painful it is, you just enjoy the bright side of it; a nice prostate massage is never a bad idea.

Again, take care of that ticker and make sure you stay positive. Xxx
