Fitting a better 1200cc engine to my hijet

Post by Woody the closet gay on Thu Aug 11, 2016 11:09 pm

Could someone tell me how difficult is it to fit another replacement engine to my 1999 hijet. Going from a slow 950cc to a 1200cc Thanks Sorry I mean't to say 1300cc engine which I have bought & want to fit instead of my cooked 950cc underpowered engine . I have the engine ready to go in. And the guy I bought it from reasures me it will go straight in Hmm?

Dont think its feasible, and a 1200 is a diesel which is not highly rated anyway. Be cheaper probably to just buy a 1300 when all said and done. Highlyjetted would probably be able to give some more accurate advice though.

Easiest way? Buy a 1300. Cheapest way, live with what you have. End up scrapping the van way? Try to fit a 1300.

1200 is a diesel which is slower than a 998 petrol. Not heard of a 950cc model and 1999 vans are usually 1.3 anyway. Welcome anyway, in which part of the world are you?

Hello Greggi Weggi.   What kind of a name is that?  Next you'll be telling us you have Dippy Wippy Bready Soldiers in your Eggy  Weggi's for Brekki Wekki.  Or  you'll get a whole bunch of dim wits on here talking like that AWFUL Haribo Sweets advert. GROW UP AND STOP IT RIGHT  NOW MAN.

If you have got a 1999 van and you are unfortunate enough to have a 993cc 3cylinder engined version it would probably be a T reg and they are very rare. There is one MPV here on the Isle of Wight.

Daihatsu changed from 993c to 1300cc in 1998 on S registration and there are a few of them about but still pretty rare.

If it is a 993cc 3 cylinder version then forget right now any Grand Illusions of putting a 1300 engine in it.  IT IS NOT FEASIBLE. Sell it it and buy a 1300. The 1300 model is so easily distinguishable from the 993 version by its much deeper front bumper and semi-diamond shape Headlights which if they are no good will need replacing at a  second hand price of around £150 to £250 EACH.
( When Valeo  stopped making the headlights over 3 years  ago,  Daihatsu were selling new ones then for £500 +vat each).

So hope and pray that if you have bought a 1300 BOTH headlights are pristine. If you have  a 993, with manky lights you have two choices -  stick with the 993, buy two new ones at £18 each off Ebay  and put up with it being a little under powered, but a properly serviced one isn't that gutless. I had an S reg 993 and I would squeeze 80mph out of it on the flat.

Don't get me started on the 1200 Diesel 34bhp  issue. The only answer to them is Third Party Fire and Theft, a gallon of petrol and a box of matches. But try explaining to your insurance company why your Diesel Daihatsu had a petrol leak and mysteriously caught fire.

A 1300 cc 4 cylinder Hi-Jet is 65bhp and capable of 90 mph. If you aren't happy with that then there is something wrong with you.
The other answer is fit a 94bhp 1600cc engine in it for a 110mph projectile. But with a name like Greggi  Weggi I reckon you will be wetting yourself going over 40mph in your Hi-Jet.
For goodness sake man, get a grip of yourself and change that atrocious name. You will have the some of the   idiots on the "More Serious Forum's calling us a bunch of Fairies.

And if you do you do turn out to be Man Enough I have got a few 94bhp 1600 engines still in one of my sheds that didn't catch fire. And by the way  - - Welcome to the Forum. Smile

Oh Dennis, you have missed the letter "N" out of your second name. Somebody might misconstrue that and get the wrong Idea.

And 'Ullo GEORDIE. Have you still got your Romahome, or have I been out of the loop too long.
I have still got 3 Romahomes, 2 MPV's, 2 Tippers, 2 Pickups and 4 vans but only 6 Grand Moves now. Sold the Extol Friday and got two more vans to Mot this week and polish up to sell. Oh yes and I have got a 1200 Diesel van with a very good (no such thing as a good Lombardini Diesel engine other than a dead one)  72,000 miles engine, but we don't want to talk about such disgusting things on this Forum.
Unless of course somebody is in need of a Beautiful 1200,  low mileage Lombardini Sewing machine engine, then I would be overjoyed to talk money with them.

Yes so was I at Jography. That's those long legged Animals with long necks and eat leaves off the highest trees l seem to remember.
Mind you it is 51 years tomorrow, August 14th 1965 the day I started work at my first Office job at Cowes & Gate Head Office in Guildford.
I must have a memory like those animals with long - - - you know the thing the length of which makes you jealous your name doesn't match their size. Got it. Of course silly me. Trunks.
