1.3 16v EFI Cam Shaft Possibly Required.

Post by DodgeGT on Thu Dec 01, 2016 8:31 pm

All,

I have a 1.3 16v EFI (1998) which is making a horrible tapping noise, i think its a warn cam shaft.

I'll be doing some more testing on it soon to try and work out if this is the issue or not.

Just putting some feelers out there to see how easy a cam shaft would be to get hold of and how much would it cost?

Cheers Guys.

Ah yes, one exactly like that. Looks better than my current one...

How much would we be talking for one?

Thank You

Blood, Sweat and Tears by the looks of it !!
£40 + carriage. I am going to the garage tomorrow or Sunday so will have a hunt for it. It's like the Black Hole Of Calcutta with all the smoke damage from the fire in July.

No electricity now, so torchlight parade.

Seems like a fair price to me, let me know if you find it over the weekend or not. Still not 100% that is the cam shaft making the tapping noise, will try and do some investigations over the next week or so (working 7-7 currently though)

I did read about the fire, looked terrible. At least no one was hurt Smile

You need to work out why that has done that. Is it an LPG?

Yeah, that's what I'm trying to work out with no clues so far Sad

Its obviously oil starvation but I've had the whole engine in pieces and can't seem to find any signs of blockages. The whole head went in a parts washer at work to give it a proper clean out.

The oil light isn't standing when running so there is oil pressure, none of the main bearings showed any sign of damage. I have bought an oil pressure gauge (calibrated it at work) to see what the actual pressure is when its back together again.

No its not an LPG.

Any Ideas? Cheers Smile

How straight are the valves, how worn are the guides?

What were the clearances like before you took it apart?

Valves are all straight, guides are not worn.

Didn't check the clearances with fellers before dismantling, but none has excessive travel.
