Hijet camper conversion

Post by Juliawildfire1976 on Mon Apr 17, 2017 4:43 pm

Hi

We are to embark on a small kind of conversion of a 52 plate 1.3 petrol Hijet. We just want to put a fixed bed in (or Rock n Roll, depending on how we feel) with storage underneath. We don't need a sink or a fixed stove - electrics etc as we will literally slum it and be happy with that! BUT we do want an awning for longer trips and we do need some advice about boarding the interior out. Currently it is literally a van with two seats and sliding door etc. Any help and advice re: appropriate awning and battening would be greatfully recieved!

You dont really need to board it out like a larger van just insulate the walls with insulating foam and use the stretchy carpet covering on top. Look at Megavanmats for ideas (also see my Renovation of Skylark thread to see how I used it) Its quite effective and stretches around all sorts of curves like wheel arches etc. For beds have a search on here as others have done a similar thing to what you are wanting. Use the advanced search feature on the top menu.

Ah ok! That sounds perfect. How is it attached - the fabric?

Thanks!

Glue! Not as bad as it seems just make sure you use high temp stuff (I used the mega van stuff) works well. Just think about what you need to do first as once its stuck its virtually stuck for good. Its easier than you think, just looks a big task when you start.

Brilliant - ok. So glue is good and easy. That can version is also interesting - I wish I knew what his awning was too hahaha!

Thanks for your advice.
