993 EFI brakes

993 EFI brakes

now i know the van does not brake like my bike can! but even i can tell the brakes are getting bad!
what do i have on my van?
pads on front, drums on rear?
any tips on replacing them?

Actually I don't think the brakes are too bad on a Hijet, unless you have loads of weight in the back. Yes, it's front pads, rear shoes.

Whip the front wheels off and you can see how much meat is left on the pads. I've not changed them myself, but I know the pinc holding the pads in can corrode, so an idea to give a good spray with plus-gas or similar the night before if you're going to take them out (do NOT drive until pads have been cleaned if you've been spraying penetrating fluid around the area)

Shoes are pretty straightforward to replace - but drums can be a bugger to get off.

Spongy pedal wil be air in the system. can you be more precise about the decline in your system?

the easiest way to remove the rear drums, is get a couple of bolts (there are 2 holes on the drum face).
you wind the bolts in, and it forces the drums off.

same applies to bike brakes....
it takes longer to stop! in my books no pads left! last winter i have had squeaky/sticky brakes esp after its rained. after a few 100 meters they stop squeaking
pedal not spongy....
