fwd is usually boring Sad

Mk1 Escort Mexico would be my choice....I think they look nice Very Happy

I've sadly gone to a FWD vehicle (Saab 9-3), but since doing a few handling mods, it handles quite well, and lift off oversteer is possible :p

and the way it goes makes up for the FWD :p

I have a mate who's into his S1 turbos, why, I don't know, but it keeps him busy. One got sold for £12,000 a year or so back, it was full on concourse condition, there was not a bit of rust on it anywhere, nor a scratch, chip or blemish. Keep this quiet boys but I liked it a little bit.

Nahh, I liked it because the condition was unbelievable. Not many like it anymore, and 100% standard spec too. Non of that Fast Ford kev boy crap. How many XR3 etc went quickly down hill after their owner "modified" them Rolling Eyes Theres a few mk3/4's that float about here but they are dogs.

Call me a chav, but i'm having a mk2 xr2 in my collection one day. In red just like this:-

It'll just sit there and get taken on the odd ride out on a sunny day. I'm going to need a huge garage/barn.

had one of them years ago, great fun...

You want one of these with the saxo vtr motor in it - cheap and a good laugh

lift off oversteer is a joke though, more like lift off crash.....

Ok, you're a chav! Razz

Used to have the XR3i, similar joke that was used on most XR's;

A mate of mine had a loverly red MK2 XR2 and the previous owner had done a 1.8 conversion full twin webers the lot and it was properly done and it showed it was clean straight and when like s**t off a shovel much better than the one he had before it that look ok but was a heap.

what annoys me about 'modifying' cars is everyone is seen the same.....

for example, I have been 'modifying' my car to actually improve it, as anyone who's driven a standard Saab (even the 9-3 which was better than the 900), will know they arent exactly the best handling car ever!

so, on my Saab 9-3 I've got twin rear ARBs, as the standard one is too weak.
it stiffens the car up considerably, improves handling, makes the car more stable during cornering and braking.

plus I've added the missing bumper lips to increase downforce which although the front lip is only ~1" long, any air that hits it divert over the lip and through the bumper slots, instead of diverting as standard under the car.

the result is a little bit more downforce on the front wheels.

I've modified various parts of the intake system, from the airbox intake, to the intake manifold to help improve flow, and do away with any restrictions in the intake.
plus I've stopped the intake from using any warm air.
I've reset the 'base boost' slightly above standard for a bit more grunt.
and obviously it has a boost gauge so I can see what boost it makes, but also keep a check for any vacuum leaks.....

now in all seriousness, the reasons I've 'modified' my car, are to improve how smoothly it runs, and to increase power/torque a little....

yet in some peoples eyes, I'm no different to the chavs/boy racers/etc who modify a saxo/106/corsa/etc with stupid body kits and spoilers held on with cable ties, and stupid boom box exhausts, etc......
doesnt make sense to me.........

oh well.....at least I can have some fun at traffic lights......
the amount of chavs/boy racers with their drainpipe exhausts who sit there trying to race my car.....

yes, if I want super quick acceleration, I resort to my motorbike Very Happy

CBR600F..... 0-60mph in ~3.6 seconds (I've timed myself at 4.0 seconds without the front actually lifting).....

what goes through the minds of the chavs/boy racers when they try and race a sportsbike?

their car does 0-60mph in ~12 seconds.......

in 12 seconds I can be doing well over 100mph (in theory Rolling Eyes Razz Cool )

well I'm not a light rider :p Rolling Eyes

but its extra traction on the back wheel (and keeps the front down a bit more) :p

and if I'm 'racing' I'll take mine past the redline at 13,500rpm to the rev limiter at 14,000rpm Smile

EDIT:
Saying that, its not the fastest bike I've owned (acceleration wise).....

I used to have VTR1000.....0-60mph in 3.2 seconds (I managed a 3.5 seconds!)

and of course, my rather missed DRZ400S.....
stock of 39hp (crank)....

mine had a full race pipe, big pumper carb, modded airbox, geared down so the top speed dropped by 20~25mph....
87~88mph on the rev limiter in top :p

not very powerful, but would out accelerate pretty much anything......
cant say how fast 0-60mph it was though.....
speedo was driven off the front wheel.....which was rarely in contact with the road Rolling Eyes

Always remember there is a large brush with a big bucket of black sticky stuff that isn't treacle. I like a nice one off custom/modified car or bike but I can't stand the "I want to be different" just like everyone else crowd I used to work in a Harley dealer and we would get second hand bikes in with all the squawking parrot shit on and they would sit in the showroom not selling we would take in the workshop and remove all the crap back in the showroom and it would sell and the new owner would then buy all the same shit we took off.

www.barryboys.co.uk for a laugh look at shed of the week.

I also like to think in the orginal hotrodders mind set which was to improve a vehicle can it be removed from something else and fitted or made to fit or just make it not just buy bolt on "goodies".

Rant time what really gets my goat is these people that say"I built my bike/car/whatever" and when you ask questions it's all so & so built the engine someone else fitted it and then McPaint did the paint job Mad Evil or Very Mad

When I say I built it I mean it even then it's not quite true as it was manufactured somewhere first.

I had to stop looking on barry boys it almost became an obsession looking for my car as I found some pics taken near here but I don't think it qualifies as the only bolt on goodies I have are a stereo, sports steering wheel and white clocks, even the recaro seats are out of a VW and the brakets were all made to suit to get them sat on the standard rails.

Hybrids being 50% built by me.. i say 50% coz the frame was cut/re-welded by someone else.. i have had to strip it back to bare frame & start again with a fresh lump/loom etc.. i may not be the one who sets up the carbs or respray the tank coz those jobs are beyond my skills, but i know it has to be done.

If you like my car is famous around here I even had the guy fom my local chip shop come in to work and ask who's it was as he recognised it and one of our local tesco drivers uses it as a locator on our estate as we have a funny numbering system here.
