tyre legality question.

Post by 8bit-ash on Mon Mar 19, 2012 12:14 pm

Legally as long as my insurance are aware and they're fit for purpose can I fit car tyres? Seems a bit of a grey area. The weight rating of each tyre is 412kg so 1648kg combined which is over the gross weight of the hijet. They're lower profile and wider and the van is lowered so I'm not worrying about sidewall stiffness. I also very rarely carry weight.

They would also be fine through an MOT so VOSA is nothing to worry about, more a police and insurance Q.

I run 175/70/13's on mine, never bothered about commercial tyres, most cars weigh more than the Hijet anyway. Cant see a prob myself, its not insured or used as a commercial vehicle?

its not insured at the moment. But it won't be when I get it back on the road, private use only.
Used to run car tyres on my T4 but they were extra Load. Can't get the profile/size I want XL so i'll just go with the 77H rated then.
