numptys on ebay

Post by waz on Sun Jun 17, 2012 8:21 pm

Put my van on Gumtree, then last Monday put it on ebay. Guy saw the ad on gumtree and bought the van Tuesday. Edited on ebay to say the van was sold. Looked to 2 bidders, do people not look at the description and see that it is sold. I did have a disclaimer on the ad saying it was advertised elsewhere so mite end the auction early.

Yeah, some numpties leave things on an ebay auction which have already sold Rolling Eyes Laughing Wink

Once someone wins the auction, you'll then have to sort out the after mess, ebay will bill you for the final auction fee, then the buyer could leave you bad feedback.

p.s.

Product availability

When buyers bid on or purchase an item on eBay, they should feel confident that the item is available and will be delivered in a timely matter.

What to do:-
You must ensure the items you’re offering are in stock for the duration of the listing and are delivered to the buyer, unless the buyer doesn't meet the terms of your listing.
For multi-quantity listings, make sure you have ready access to all the items you’re offering. For pre-sale listings, make sure you'll have ready access to all items on the release date.
If you run into an inventory problem that's beyond your control, you're responsible for letting the buyer know when the item will be available or issuing a refund immediately for the full amount.

What not to do:-
You must not:
List an item that may be out of stock by the time of purchase
List an item that you're simultaneously selling outside of eBay

Offer an item that may not be what's delivered to the buyer
Offer an inflated number of items in a multi-quantity listing

Ebay listing/selling rules from here:- http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/selling-practices.html

I have got a disclaimer on the item advertised elsewhere. I have seen this on a lot of ebay listings so I would say common practice. I sold it on the 12th and edited the listing that day saying sold, the first bid did not come until today.

Lots of people do it, but by putting that "disclaimer" on the auction you are basically admitting that your auction is in breech of the ebay terms and conditions. If someone clicks the "report this listing" button ebay would remove the auction without question, then make your account locked until you do the on-line ebay listing tuition course thing. I know as I've had to do it Mad Had my account locked 4 times now for various reasons, bit of a learning curve as I've sold about 300 items on ebay over the last few years.

I guess its this one... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Daihatsu-Hijet-1-3-EFI-/280899212377?pt=UK_Commercial_Trucks&hash=item4166e5d459#ht_500wt_1204

Surely you just follow this link http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?EndingMyAuction

type in 280899212377 as your item number

then choose "You lost or broke the item" as the reason to end the auction.

Currently with the bidding upto £640 your final auction fee which will get billed to your account on auction completion will be £20.

If I put in that the item is lost or broken after having put sold then I think that would make matters worse. I would contest ebays rules and regs as being against competition, like saying you could not advertise an item in 2 papers at the same time. Going back to my original post it is the fact that people are bidding on a clearly mark sold item

I have just ended the listing there was an option saying item no longer available so that covers it.

Thanks for that Highly Jetted.
