Hi I'm new.

Post by simmo116 on Tue Jul 03, 2012 5:57 pm

hello there just found this fourum with a bit of googling. i maybe coming into possesion of a 1221cc diesel hijet soon(1997) and would like a little advice.
firstly the history.the van is currently used by a company as an internal mail van and has only done 1600 miles.it has never been taxed or been on the queens highway. it gets a basic service every year(oil+filters) and runs beautifully. only problem is its rotten underneath. and have been told by the mechanic that services it that it needs break lines windscreen and maybe a set of tires to get it on the road. personaly im no mechanic so would have to pay to get it road worthy.
question1.
is this worth my time and effort to get it on road?what sort of money would i be looking at. i realise how longs a piece of string lol but just a ball park figure?
question 2. what else should i lookout for.
ill try and get some pics up[ when i find out how.
thanx in advance

Depends how much rust there is, brake lines and tyres aren't too expensive.

It's beautiful. Buy it, park it in your front room, sit and admire it.

And welcome! cheers

Another welcome. Wouldn't have thought running on red much of a problem - it might take a tank or two to get used to the expensive stuff though.

How bad is it underneath - have you seen for yourself? Maybe the mechanic is hoping to scare you off and grab the bargain himself?

It may have its defects but on that sort of milage and servicing I bet its one of the best you'd find. If you put it on ebay I bet it would cause a bidding war. Unfortunately rot is inevitable on Hijets.

Red Derv is 100% fine, the only issue with putting it back on the road you could do with trying to get it empty as possible then fill it full with white derv - just to get rid of the pinkness of the mix because if you get pulled and dipped they would ask you lots of questions. Not that you see vosa cops doing much.

Hello too, thats gotta be the lowest mileage Hijet i,ve seen. Well worth some effort to get it back on the road. Deffo needd to get the red out, but az its only a dye added to normal derv nowt to worry about.
