Nothing to discuss, it's true.

Possibly except a 124 spyder, or an 1500 or 850 coupe, or maybe a barchetta. I like the look of the new 500 but not driven one yet.

We had a Punto for a few years.
It was a good reliable car, but the build quality was sh*t.
It seemed to need a new rear wishbone at every MOT & the engine was never oil tight.
No sooner had one oil leak been fixed, another one would appear somewhere else.

Mind you it was bought to replace an MG Metro!
Now that really was a piece of sh*t. Evil or Very Mad

I had a Punto TD before of my Porter.

I bought it in 2001 with 40'000km, I demolished it in march with over 280'000km on it, and it is still running fine...I had only some issues with MOT... Razz

But not because of car problems...
I made some hard tuning works on the engine, from the original 63hp I reach about 100hp or more (enough to leave behind, in the acceleration, Golf IV 2.0TDI 140hp), i mount an intercooler, bigger turbocharger, 60mm exhaust line, gearbox (with gears from the 1.9TD engine), axles and wheel hubs of the 70hp version, I loved it and I think it is a lot more reliable than the Porter...

Fiat builds some "crappy" car, but if you know how to fix it, it runs fine...

Sure engines aren't oil tight...

With that car I've made very long trips across europe before to bought my autocaravan (even Fiat, a 1983 ducato), we went to Spain two times, and one time we do over 6000km in three weeks (from Italy all the france and spain south coast to Tarifa, then return passing by madrid), we went to Amsterdam, Geneve (in winter, a lot of the trip with snowy roads...), and some long trips across italy.
No one time she left me on the way.
From first to last day fuel consumption was still the same, and the engine, even with 280'000km with a "heavy foot" on accelerator -remember I bought it when I'm 20years old, now I'm 31-, never had problems with motor oil consumption.

I think that the first Punto was one of the best Fiat cars.

Here in spain, 2006 Very Happy

wish I could write in Italian as well as you do in english El_Vent

Fastest car I ever drove was a fiat 125, I worked in the parts department but would not have one as even the simplest or parts took months to come from Italy.

Fiat spare parts came in long times even in Italy...
Even if you can find it at all...

For example...
My autocaravan is built on the chassis of the first Ducato Diesel version, engine and chassis was the same from 1982 to 1992 (?), pratically all the two versions odf the "squared" ducato has about the same engines, mine is the 2.5 naturally aspirated one, and it was used for all the time with minor modifications (only cylinder bore changes, because of problems in some cases of the first version, and displacement rises from 2.445cc to 2.499 between 8144.61 engine, the older and mine, and the .67.)

In 2007 I had the cylinder head cracked, during the repair work I see that a steel water pipe that passes between the engine block and the exhaust manifold has some rust.

I tought "it's a pipe, it would cost me little money", so I gone to Fiat official dealer of my region, and they can't find it.

They said me: "we have no longer microfiches reader, we can't find parts of older cars and engine", then "It's time to change it, man!", when I tried to remind then that the engine was the same from 1982, and that before of the Ducato that engine was mounted on a lot of cars (131Mirafiori Diesel, Campagnola etc) from 1974, they laugh and said to me that it is impossible to find any spare for that old veichles, and suggest me to try at the scrap yard or on in a vintage car exchange-fair...

Next days I download the newer, at the time, version of the E-Per, the electronic spare catalog made by Fiat, and I find clearly wrote that the spares for mine engine, except some codes that indicates rods, pistons, crankshaft and the cylinder block, was the same between mine and the newer engine.

Then I return to fiat with the code, they search it and they find that the part was in stock.
After 5minutes the warehouse man comes with the pipe in hand.

The spare cost was over 100€, so I decided to build one from stainless steel...
However I had the stainless one in the autocaravan, but at now the original pipe was in place...

They simply don't know how to work...

However, I never bought an original spare part, except the gearbox ball-bearing, that simply doesn't exist as non original aftermarket spare.

Thank you, I hope to improve my english, however...
