New Botty Parking

Post by Logi on Tue Oct 09, 2012 6:26 pm

As you'll know if you've seen my van i had bucket seats fitted. Comfy, but too big, too high, too wide. made the Sootyvan seem (even more) cramped.
Solution?
Smaller seats, but still comfy, good looking etc.
Not many small cars with seats suitable for a Hijet.
But i'd recommend checking out Smart cars, knew there was a point to them Very Happy

Very nice, and there are quite a few burnt out smarts going through the garages, they look like they r actually smaller but more comfy, if mine ever works properly I'm gonna look out for some of these Smile

Can you remove the belt guide from the top of the seat?

I like how the passenger seat will fold down easy to get big long items in the back.

The seatbelt guide is on the to do list, will be spending some time in the garage this weekend if the weather's as shite as it's supposed to be so will remove them then., Yes the passenger seat folding down is good, also the fact the backs are metal is great, no worries about tearing them with stuff loaded on top. Only downside is that they don't recline.

PS, HJ, do you have a drivers side seatbelt socket?

I can sure help you there!

At the same time, you have now hindered me with having to find a pair of these seats for my LPG hijet - which may be getting the 1600cc engine this weekend Twisted Evil

They don't recline? Hmm, not so impressed now, I quite often end up reclining the seat for quick snooze before setting off again, although if I've got a comfy bench bed in the back I spose it wouldn't be s crucial, just like to be able to open one eye and check what's going on around me every now and then!

It's always an easy mod when you know what you are doing, wished I had some of the skills like you and HJ and some others on here

Well get some tools together and start messing, only through repeated failure and breakage do you gain the skills to avoid further failure and breakages!

not having a go but but not everybody has the skill to look at thing and see a fix. I do agree with HJ trial and error. I will / do have a go at fixing things sometime successful sometimes no, my problem is I see what I think is a solution and not look see if there is another way. I remember putting a shower in my house, worked it all out 8 pushfit joins latter all done. A couple of months later I was having a shower, looked up and realized that the cold feed was above the shower so 1 cut and fit would have done it.

Yep spending longer thinking about the possible solutions does tend to save time in the implementation and parts sourcing. I try to tell people this every day but they are always in the "rush rush now" mode. Good moves are not made quickly.

Seats back out today, carpets back in, it's surprisingly bloody noisy without them! Made a couple of mods, the recliner mod and the rearward travel mod.
Recliner mod involves cutting the stop off the seat therefore letting it recline, sorted. The rearward travel mod was more high tech. The base of the drivers seat(driver & passenger seats are completely different) dips down into the hollow on the engine cover. Trouble is when the seat goes back it hits the cover. Now spacing out the rails from the cover would work but the whole point was to have lower seats so i simply took my big hammer and lumped f**k out of the cover till it worked Smile

Nice, could be a trend starting Smile
Did you get the cupholders with them? If I buy a better Hijet i'm tempted to look for a pair of leather heated ones. The pass side one fits a treat, make sure you fit the drivers one far enough back to clear the steering wheel with the adjuster when you tip the cover......... Laughing
